Sorbitol (), less commonly known as glucitol (), is a sugar alcohol with a sweet taste which the human body metabolizes slowly. It can be obtained by reduction of glucose, which changes the converted aldehyde group (−CHO) to a primary alcohol group (−C(OH)H2). Sorbitol 70% solution is a sugar alcohol commonly used as a sweetener and humectant in various food and pharmaceutical products. It is also used as a raw material in the production of various chemicals, such as surfactants, resins, and plasticizers. Sorbitol 70% solution is known for its ability to retain moisture, prevent crystallization, and improve texture and mouthfeel in food products. In pharmaceuticals, it is used as a laxative and as an excipient in tablet formulations.
